Cutting Knife

How do you remove Knife cutting marks from light colored plates?
You usually see gray or silver streaks on white or off-white dinnerware from where people have cut a steak or just hacked something else to pieces. How can you get rid of them without trashing the expensive plates and ruining a whole set?
I'd be happy to attach a photo if no one knows what I'm talking about.

Bar Keeper's Friend or Zud cleaners will usually work. Check your local grocery or discount store.
