Gerber Knives

Are non Gurkhas allowed to use Kukri Knives in the British army?
One of my mates wants to buy me a kukri Knife to take with me to afghanistan, im not a gurkha however. Would I be allowed to carry it on operations? I think its 16 inches total length. If not, are british soldiers allowed to carry their own personal knives, like a gerber folding tactical knife for example? Ive heard stuff like that can get confiscated, which i defo dont want.
cheers
I know a lot guys used them in the jungle during tours of Belize and training in Brunei although the preferred knife there is the locally made parang. There is nothing to say you can't although a 16"kukri won't be a lot of good to you in the stan. The RAF are also getting picky about stuff like that even in hold luggage, you'd be better off witha gerber/leatherman.
