what do you call the thing that can make kitchen Knife sharp and what store can i buy in Houston?
i think it's made of metal, and long and round, but can look other way too. thanks.
It is called a sharpening steel.
They're a part of most knife sets. You can get those anywhere, but you're better off with a slightly more expensive brand like JA Henckels. Scratch that, they really aren't that expensive. I paid about $180 for a set of 10 in a block.
Using a sharpening steel is a skill. If you aren't familiar with their operation, you might want to buy an Electric Knife sharpener. I have one by Chef's Choice that has three stages. Cost about $150.
Do NOT ever use the knife sharpener that comes with your electric can opener. It'll ruin a knife.
